La Cubana, is a Catalan theatre company founded in 1980 in Sitges (Barcelona) that bases its work in the recreation of those theatrical situations that happen in every day life and that are not usually acknowledged as so. It always plays with characters who have their own life and they go further than the simple script, trying to amaze the spectator to the limits between fiction and reality.

Their first work as professionals was Cubana’s Delikatessen (actions in the street, 1983) which, without pretending to do so, marked the line to be followed in the future of the Company. With La Tempestad (a craziness about the work of Shakespeare, 1986), it returns to the conventional stages. With the little experience gathered and the eagerness for survival, it creates a trilogy of spectacles where La Cubana makes everything which it likes to do:

They have also intervened and created different spaces for television, from among which we want to mention:

Spectacles

The last spectacle ( a play between cinema and theatre), Cegada de amor (1994) is the work which the company has exploited until the year 1998 without interruption, with nearly one million spectators.

"Equipaje para el 2000. Más deprisa, más deprisa”. Exhibition-Spectacle presented from the 18th December, 1999 through the 12th March, 2000 at the CCCB (Contemporaneous Culture Centre of Barcelona) with 23,464 visitors-spectators.

Parallely, it enacts “cubanadas” for inaugurations, congresses, enterprises’ feasts, etc. ---, “actions and tailored scripts” which it performs in the whole State.

The creation of the new spectacle of the company begins: “Una noche de Ópera”, ideated and directed by Jordi Milán, which will be performed in Barcelona for the first time in June 2001.

2001

The rehearsals of “Una noche de Ópera” continue, the musical recording of the opera Aida is made in Moscow and the audiovisual recording of the same.

On the 12th June is performed for the first time “Una noche de Ópera” at the Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona.

2002

We continue being at the Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona with “Una noche de Ópera”.

Up to this date, more than 170,000 spectators have already seen the spectacle, and we are still on the show-bill.
