ELS JOGLARS

Els Joglars were publicly born in October 1962 at the Palau de les Nacions de Montjuïc (Barcelona) with Albert Boadella, Carlota Soldevila and Anton Font. Boadella has been the leader of Els Joglars up to the present time, and there are already 30 spectacles of creation of their own and 40 years of continuous activity which configurate the history of the company. The mimic roots which characterized the theatre at its beginning evolved towards a more traditional style, maintaining at every time the interest to reflect the society living in each epoch. Beyond the proper spectacles, Els Joglars have participated at the realization of 8 television series, 2 short films and a documental regarding the figure of the anarchist Durruti. Making an approximate calculation about the activity of the company, can be anecdotically mentioned the following figures: more than 4,500 actuations in more than 300 villages, in more than 20 countries and at more than 90 festivals.

At present, Els Joglars are commemorating their 40 anniversary presenting La trilogía, composed of the three last plays, Ubú president (1995), La increíble historia del Dr. Floit & Mr. Pla (1997) and Daaalí , adapted and renovated for the occasion and interpretated in a consecutive way by the same team of actors and with Ramón Fontserè being the protagonist.

THE TRILOGY

The plays which we represent are not exclusively the description of three different personalities, but they also mean altogether a vision of the habits, contradictions, vulgarities or whimsies which affect people of this part of the Mediterranean Sea.

Someone who may not know our territory could get – through this trilogy, a global idea of some tokens which characterize it. For this reason, it is not necessary to speak of such exceptional characteristics as to need codes of access nor justify ethnical ficklenesses because in the today’s western world everybody possesses a really laudable equalitarian will, with very good results in as far as the target of the general clonization is concerned.

The elements which configurate the daily life of this country have uniformized in such a way that only in the field of the delirium we find some different versions of a reality more and more circumscribed to the functionality of the market.

In this sense, and for different reasons, our three personalities possess the same delirious characteristics.
The exceptional common sense of Dalí appears as a delirium when showing itself in a pictoric form, whereas the lack of common sense of Ubú-Pujol applied to politics, results to be a permanent delirium out of the
authentic reality. Against the lucid reasonableness of Pla, which in the criterion of a present clonic consumer may seem to be a delirious version of the individuals and their actions.

The three plays also represent the synthesis of the work carried through in the last 40 years by the company. Those who have followed a part of this trajectory, will easily remember in some passages the traces of Serrallonga, Mary d’Ous, Olympic Man or M-7 Catalonia, among others. This is logical, since we have never broken a tradition which began in the year 1962, and which does not only affect the style, but above all a manner of working as a team, which has been more and more perfected in the lapse of the years, until reaching the magnific present team… and I do not continue because they could impute me inducement to national envy.
