On November 9th, the first edition of the D.O. Territori Escènic will be inaugurated, a professional circuit of performing arts in municipalities of Catalonia with between 2,000 and 8,000 inhabitants with the aim of covering the existing deficit of performing arts programming in these localities. It is an initiative led by CIATRE, within the Pla d’impuls del teatre promoted by the Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya. Thanks to this measure, a stable, varied and sustainable theatrical offer will be implemented with which the territory will be articulated in a transversal way and synergies will be created between the audiences of the nearby towns. As the project is rolled out, the circuit will be expanded with the participation of more companies and municipalities.
This year, the D.O. Territori Escènic will involve 12 professional companies and 11 municipalities in the region of La Selva (Girona) with an itinerary that will extend over different weekends and will include theatre performances, parallel activities and public dynamisation. The participating municipalities are the following: Arbúcies, Caldes de Malavella, Hostalric, La Cellera de Ter, Riells i Viabrea, Riudarenes, Riudellots de la Selva, Sant Hilari Sacalm, Sils, Vidreres and Vilobí d’Onyar. Tickets can now be purchased at this link.
The plan is that next year, this initiative will continue in La Selva and will be replicated in a different region, configuring two circuits and doubling the number of participating municipalities. In addition, in subsequent editions, both the towns and the companies that will be part of the programme will increase.
The D.O. project Territori Escènic is one of the measures of the Pla d’impuls del teatre, an initiative of the Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya to strengthen the theatre sector, throughout the entire value chain of this sector: from creation and production, to exhibition and dissemination.
