In its 2025 edition, D.O. Territori Escènic expands both in the number of participating municipalities and in territorial reach, with the addition of a new D.O. in the Terres de l’Ebre region. In this way, the project builds on the success achieved in the Selva region and replicates it in another area with similar needs. Furthermore, in future editions, the initiative will continue to grow, increasing both the number of towns and theatre companies involved in the programme.
D.O. Territori Escènic will begin on 8 September in Gandesa and will end on 14 December in Móra la Nova. This year, the project features 20 professional companies, selected from over 200 proposals submitted through the artistic open calls of both D.O. regions.
This cross-regional circuit will involve 19 municipalities from the Selva and Terres de l’Ebre areas, unfolding across several weekends and including theatre performances, parallel activities and audience engagement initiatives.
The participating towns from the Selva region are: Arbúcies, Caldes de Malavella, Hostalric, La Cellera de Ter, Riells i Viabrea, Riudarenes, Riudellots de la Selva, Sant Hilari Sacalm, Sils, Vidreres and Vilobí d’Onyar. The D.O. Territori Escènic in the Terres de l’Ebre region includes the towns of: El Perelló, Gandesa, La Sènia, La Fatarella, Móra d’Ebre, Móra la Nova, Sant Jaume d’Enveja and Vilalba dels Arcs.
The circuit, led by CIATRE within the framework of the Pla d’impuls del teatre promoted by the Departament de Cultura, is celebrating its second edition with the aim of consolidating itself as a professional theatrical exhibition initiative for municipalities in Catalonia with populations of up to 8,000 inhabitants. This initiative was born from the need to enrich the cultural panorama of these localities with the aim of generating a cultural and social impact that transcends the editions of the project. With the D.O. Territori Escènic, a stable, varied and sustainable theatrical offer is implemented, with which two territories are articulated transversally and synergies are created between the audiences of nearby towns.
The D.O. Territori Escènic is one of the measures of the Pla d’impuls del Teatre, an initiative of the Departament de Cultura to strengthen the field of theatre, throughout the entire value chain of this sector: from creation and production, to exhibition and dissemination.
