On June 6 at 6:00 p.m., Teatre El Centru in Vila-seca (Tarragona) will host La cupletista, the songs of Càndida Pérez Martínez, a production by Cia. Núria Esquius that revives a fundamental piece of Catalan musical and theatrical history.

The show highlights the figure of composer Càndida Pérez Martínez, a pioneering woman in a time when female musical creation was highly unusual. Author of some of the most popular cuplés in the history of Catalan song, her work serves as the guiding thread through the world of the cuplé and its cultural and social context.

La cupletista not only revives songs such as La Marieta de l’ull viu and Les Caramelles, but also transports audiences to the atmosphere of iconic venues and stages of the era, such as Teatre Arnau, the Bohemia tavern, and legendary figures like Raquel Meller. The production also explores concepts such as sicalipsis, a key element in understanding the transgressive and popular spirit of those years.
